Effortless Tongue Weight Management

Remember when gauging your trailer's tongue weight was such a hassle? It often involved wrestling with bathroom scales, which were far from accurate, or making a trip to the weigh station, which took time and effort. Or you had to buy a separate scale. With a Weigh Safe Hitch, it's super-simple. Just hook up your trailer to the ball mount like you would with any other hitch. The moment you connect, the weight of your trailer pushes down on the hitch ball, automatically giving you a measurement on the easy-to-read gauge. It's quick, hassle-free, and takes the guesswork out of towing. Now you can focus on the road ahead instead of worrying about whether your load is balanced.

The Weigh Safe Hitch can be used in either the drop or rise position to best suit your needs.

Video Transcript for Review of Weigh Safe Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - Built In Scale Hitch 2 Balls 2 Inch - WS78RR

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at this Weigh Safe built-in scale hitch with two stainless steel balls for your two inch trailer hitch receiver. Now this ball mount is going to be a great choice for you to consider if you're looking for a highly durable and easy-to-use hitch. This features a built-in scale, as you can see right here, and that's gonna let you easily measure the tongue weight, and that's gonna help you ensure that you're going to have a better towing safety and performance. This is going to slide into your two inch trailer hitch receiver. And it's going to give you a two inch and 2 5/16 inch stainless steel tow balls.

And so you're going to be able to tow different types of trailers. And then when you have this in this orientation, you're gonna get a maximum drop of about six inches. And then when you flip this over, you're gonna get a maximum rise of about seven inches, with an incremental height adjustment of about one inch, making this versatile for various towing setups, giving you that height adjustability that you need so you can tow trailers of different heights all with the same vehicle. So with the 2 5/16 inch hitch ball, you're gonna have a gross towing weight of 15,000 pounds. And with the two inch ball, you're gonna have a gross towing weight of 8,000 pounds.

And as you can see there on your screen, the maximum tongue weight for this is 1,500 pounds. And this does feature, as I mentioned, a tongue weight scale that's built into the ball mount platform, and that's gonna help you balance your trailer for safer towing. This scale will let you know if your load needs to be adjusted before you tow. And this is a very simple operation. This will automatically give you a measurement every time you couple your trailer.

So this is gonna be efficient, it's gonna be hassle-free, it's going to eliminate the need for separate or commercial scales. You're not gonna have to worry about getting your bathroom scale out, bringing it out, and trying to figure out your tongue weight. It's all gonna be done with this. Now this also features a dual-pin slider lock that's gonna make it very easy to adjust the height. And let me give you a brief demonstration of that.

We have this cover here, so I'm just gonna pull that cover back. Obviously, that cover protects the keyway here. So I'm just gonna go ahead and insert one of these keys. Everything is keyed-to-like here with the dual-pin slider lock and our hitch lock, which we'll talk more about that in the next minute or so. So I'm just gonna go ahead and pull this out. While we have this out, I wanted to point out that we do have a plated steel lock here, so you're gonna have a durability and a lot of strength there. So let me just show you how easy this is going to be to slide this up and down to get that height adjustment that you're looking for. By the way, this is also stowable. So all you would have to do is take this ball platform and flip it around just like that. And then all you would have to do is replace the dual pin slider lock, and that will lock this into this stowable position. And so when you're not towing, you're not gonna have to worry about walking behind your truck and accidentally hitting your shin because that ball platform is gonna be stowed away. So that's really a great option there. So let me go ahead and just show you how easy this is going to be to swap out the ball. So currently, I have my 2 5/16 inch ball in there. And then when you want, if you wanna swap it out to the two inch ball, you can either tip this over, and that retaining pin will slide out, or if it's in there pretty good, it does have a ring there that you can stick your finger in to pull that out. So I'm just gonna go ahead, remove my 2 5/16 inch ball and then pop in my two inch ball. You do wanna make sure that the holes line up, just like that, and then you'll just replace the pin. And if you notice, there's kind of like a cavity in there that it's going to sit in. And then I'm just gonna go ahead and replace this. And again, you just see how easily that's going to slide up and down. And then I'm gonna come back around here and replace my dual pin slider lock and turn the key, lock it into place, replace the cap, and then it'll be good to go. So as you can see, you're not going to be struggling at the back of your truck to get that height adjustment that you're looking for or that ball size that you're looking for. Now this is, the hitch itself is constructed of high-strength steel, and this is gonna resist corrosion thanks to a black powder coat that has been applied to this. And this also includes this hitch lock that's going to keep this securely attached to your vehicle. And like I said, all these keys are keyed-to-like, so one key is gonna operate everything here. So it's gonna be very easy to lock this into place. So what I like about this product is everything has, this has basically dual or double theft deterrent built in. So your ball platform is going to be locked to your hitch, and then the entire unit is going to be locked to your trailer hitch receiver. So this has really got built-in, great built in depth deterrent with this item. So really that's a great feature that is included. It's a great way to protect your investment. So four keys are included. Again, everything is keyed-to-like. Now, if you're wondering about some measurements, I do have them for you. So measuring from the center of our first hitch pin hole to the center of our ball, we're sitting at about 7 3/4 inches. Moving over to the second hitch pin hole, center to center, about nine inches. And then from the center of our second hitch pin hole to the end of our shank, about 2 3/8 inches. But I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that our brief time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

Great hitch, fit and finish is excellent with lots of adjustability. Nice to have the scale when loading equipment or vehicles. I have used lots of hitches, this is worth spending the money if you tow different trailers or trailers with different weight loads.

I like the ease at which to put together this Weigh Safe ball mount. It takes no time at all. The weight of it does not make it difficult to maneuver. The built-in scale is wonderful for those needing to make sure their tongue weight is within range before towing.

  • Will The Locking Pin In The Weigh Safe Hitch WS78RR Fit 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches?
Hi Jason! I pulled one of the Weigh Safe Hitch w/ Built-In Scale for 2" Hitch - 6" Drop/7" Rise - 15K - Steel # WS78RR from our warehouse and the pin (# WS54CR) has 3-7/16" of useable length. With that said, it will fit 2", 2-1/2", and 3" receivers. There will be no issues using it the way you want. Speaking of which, is this for a business or do you just have two trucks?

  • Will Scale of Weight Safe Ball Mount with Scale Break When Hitting Bumps
Hey Tim, this is a great question but the scale inside the Weigh Safe Hitch w/ Built-In Scale for 2" Hitch # WS78RR that you referenced was designed to be able to withstand the additional weight that would get put on it when hitting bumps so it would not get damaged. Basically once the scale maxes out the ball stops pushing on the scale and instead pushes on the ball mount platform so it would just push through the scale and break it. Do you know about how much the tongue weight of your...

  • What Stops Weigh Safe Ball Mount From Exceeding Load Rating When Hitting Bumps?
Hey Tim, good question. The Weigh safe ball mounts like part # WS78RR were actually designed with this in mind. There is a max weight for the scale and when the scale hits this max weight the ball basically bottoms out and stops pushing on the scale. So any bumps that may cause the dynamic load rating to be exceeded would be absorbed by the ball mount itself and not the scale. So it really still acts like a standard ball mount in these scenarios. I hope this makes sense lol. Let me know...
